The Pirate's Map

The Pirate's Map

The Pirate's Map is a companion utility built to be used alongside Rare's excellent pirate sandbox game "Sea of Thieves". It allows you to gather relevant route and resource information real-time via voice, obviating the need for a laptop or tablet within reach.
Enable it on Amazon Alexa: COMING SOON!

Changelog

V1.0-Beta:

With this initial release, these are the features we're supporting:
  • Coordinates lookup for named islands
  • Compass directions from any island or coordinates to any other island or coordinates
  • Distance (in number of coordinate squares) from any island or coordinates to any other island or coordinates
  • List animals (or powder kegs, if it's a fort) at a given island or coordinates
  • Check if one or two specific types of animals (or kegs) exist at a named island or coordinates

How to use on Alexa:

To open it, once you've enabled it, just say Alexa, open The Pirate's Map. Once you've done that, some examples of what you could say to Alexa are:
  • Where is Kraken's Fall?
  • What's the distance from F18 to Cannon Cove?
  • Are there snakes and pigs on The Sunken Grove?
  • How far is Plunderer's Plight from Shark Fin Camp?
  • What animals are on Smuggler's Bay?

Future development:

Future development of the skill entirely depends on the community and whether or not you find it useful. In terms of features, the rule of thumb is essentially good features are the ones that prevent you from having to put down the controller while you play to look up simple information. We'd love to hear what thoughts you have, and to get the wheels turning here are a few possible ideas for improvements:
  • Resources near a given location ("Where can I find chickens near Cutlass Cay?")
  • Resource pathfinding ("What's the best route for gunpowder and snakes between Ancient Spire Outpost and Galleon's Grave Outpost?")
  • Keeping track of shipwrecks you've visited so you don't accidentally go back to them
  • Given your location and a compass bearing to a skull cloud, what fort is currently active and how far away is it?
  • Translation to German, Japanese, Spanish, French, and Italian (note - if you're interested in helping with this, please reach out)
